Sunsets
I want to see a sunset without thinking of
you
a beautiful lavender-pink expanse unmarred
by passing planes
unobscured by clouds that come without
silver linings
I want to see the same sun rise together
a simple rotation that sets ablaze the
dark hours
showing exactly what brightness emerges on
the horizon
I want to see the moon and sun where you
exist
together occupying the star-tangled sky
when days and nights do not mean restless
separation
I want to see a moonrise regretless
capping off four years of denial, and
counting
illuminating the eroding craters once
shadowed
I want to see the earth reverse to
October
the glistening full moon reflecting
somberly
in thrashing, bottomless tides held back
I want to see twinkling constellations,
finally, spell meaning
fading, faraway dots connected for
short-lived explanation
a blinding flash of unspoken words,
shooting across the blackness
